Get back to what matters, with picturesque landscapes, fresh country air, and the chance to land that Murray Cod you’ve always dreamed of.

Base yourself in Corowa, Mulwala, Howlong or Urana, drop in on the friendly staff at one of the local businesses that stock fishing supplies. They will be sure to share some secret fishing spots. While you’re there, don’t forget to pick up your NSW fishing licence, which is required for the Murray River and Lake Mulwala.

Catch Of The Day

The legendary Murray Cod is the undisputed king of The Murray and the largest purely freshwater fish in the country. Capable of growing to more than one metre in length and upwards of 25kg at full maturity, they are a legendary sporting fish providing a great challenge for even experienced anglers.

Golden Perch or Yellowbelly are another prized freshwater species often growing beyond 50cm and 5kg. Redfin or English Perch are an introduced species, easily identified by the prominent red pectoral fins and spined dorsal fin along their back. Because it was introduced, Redfin is listed as a pest (not to be returned to the water). As a sportfish they punch well beyond their weight and offer excellent eating.

The Murray Crayfish are the second largest freshwater crayfish in the world and can be found in the Murray River near Corowa . They are considered a delicacy and as such have been subject to severe over-fishing. They’re a welcome catch for the winter angler, but do be aware of bag limits and other regulations.

Other fish may be caught in and around the region but are undoubtedly less common. Species include Silver Perch, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and the very rare and endangered Trout Cod..

The dreaded European Carp is unfortunately a common catch across our region. They are classified as a noxious pest, and if caught cannot be returned to the water. Their pest status aside, they are relatively easy to catch and can provide good sport and fun for the kids, though being bottom feeders they are not for the plate.
