Cheryl Cook

Mayor

Cr Cheryl Cook

Raised on a farm near Brocklesby (daughter of the late John & Melba Steinke), with extensive Howlong connections dating back to 1974. I attended St Paul's College (Walla Walla), Corowa High School and Corowa TAFE. Over the years I've lived in Albury, Sydney, Wollongong and Melbourne but thankfully in 2011 made the great decision to move to Howlong with my new husband Kevin. My son lives in Perth WA, but thankfully my daughter and two granddaughters reside close by.

My professional background has been varied in the legal, local government and private sectors (secretarial), successful self-employed businesswoman, sales/motivational trainer in the direct sales industry and a licensed real estate agent. Although I no longer practice I remain passionate about the industry and keep a close eye on what's happening in the market.

More recently, spending 4 years as Secretary for the Howlong Community Progress Association fuelled my passion for delivering outcomes that benefit the community, and the next natural step was to run as a successful candidate for the 2024 council elections.

I intend to bring a positive and balanced approach to the council chamber - my past experience enables me to communicate at all levels, and with my extensive local knowledge I see these as strong assets for representing the shire.  As Mayor, I intend to perform my role with integrity and passion to make "Future Federation" a strong sustainable reality.
