Federation Council conducts a Road Safety Program comprising regular education and behaviour change projects that are undertaken in response to community feedback and analysis of local crash data.

These projects aim to reduce the likelihood of deaths and injuries from road trauma.

Council in conjunction with Transport for NSW (TfNSW) are committed to working with local government, the community and stakeholders to deliver the practical road safety initiatives identified in the NSW 2026 Road Safety Action Plan.

The Strategy is underpinned by the Safe System approach to improving road safety.

This approach takes a holistic view of the road transport system and the interactions among the key components of that system –

  • the road user.

  • the roads and roadsides.

  • the vehicle.

  • travel speeds.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

Council employs a Road Safety Officer (RSO) who is responsible for implementing the road safety program by working closely with key stakeholders including NSW Police throughout the Council area.

 

Cycling

Whether for recreation, fitness or the daily commute, more people are riding bicycles on NSW roads than ever before.

Driver Fatigue

Driver fatigue is one of the top four contributors to crashes in New South Wales. About 10% of injury and fatality crashes in Federation Council each year involve fatigue.

Harvest Road Safety

Federation Council is home to one of the largest grain storage sites in NSW at Oaklands.

Learner Drivers & Supervisors

Federation Council conducts Learner Driver Workshops according to demand that aim to increase the knowledge and confidence of supervisors of a learner driver. Register your interest now!

Look Out Before You Step Out

Highly visible pavement stickers are being installed at key high traffic areas in the main streets of Corowa, Mulwala, Howlong, Urana and Oaklands to remind pedestrians to cross at the safest locations and to make safe decisions when crossing the road.

National Heavy Vehicle Regulator

The Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) provides General Mass
Limits (GML), Concessional Mass Limits (CML) and Higher
Mass Limits (HML) for heavy vehicles operating on the national
road network.

There are a range of parking options available in our Corowa CBD, including both on and off-street options from 15 minutes to 2 hours.

Federation Council has a four-year Road Safety Action Plan to improve road safety at a local level.

Seatbelts and child restraints

About 8% of injury and fatality crashes in Federation Council each year involve non-use of seatbelts or incorrect seatbelt usage.
