Halve Waste
Halve Waste is an initiative of Albury City Council, City of Wodonga, Federation Council and the Shires of Towong, Greater Hume and Indigo. The goal of Halve Waste is to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill by 50% by 2020.
As part of this initiative, a three bin system has been introduced, comprising of refuse, recycle and organic bins.
All food and vegetable scraps, meat and dairy can go into the (green lidded) organics bin.
An added benefit of the organic bin is that all collected material will eventually become quality compost that will become a valuable resource for the agriculture, horticulture and viticulture industries.
The more organic material that is recycled, the less methane gas is produced as well as significantly reducing the pressure on our already limited landfill space.
