Capital Works Program Update - April 2023

Council has an ongoing program of capital works and upgrades to buildings, parks, playgrounds and roads across the Federation Council Region. The following activities were undertaken during April 2023 by Federation Council’s Works teams.

Staff have continued to undertake heavy patching repairs throughout the network with assistance from contractors, as ground conditions allow. This situation is being closely monitored and as conditions improve, further remediation works can be prioritised.

Corowa – Mulwala Cycleway

The final stage of the sealing of the cycle track was all completed on Friday, April 21, 2023. Installation of kerb separation units along Cotton Street & Enfield Street has commenced. It is estimated there is enough to have units at 25m centres. Each unit is 3.2m long and comprises of two main pieces with 2 white bollards and 2 end units.

Balldale Road 8km reconstruction – LRCI Grant

Works are on target. The next 4km section has been graveled with construction of a new 9m wide formation, batters and 200mm gravel pavement and sealed. Works have commenced on 4 kms of table drains.

Maintenance Grading

  • McKenzies Road, Glenara Road, Dunoon Lane, Lilydale Rd from the Riverina Hwy to Glenara Rd , Fairfield Rd and Erindale Rd.
  • Men’s Shed site clearing for preparation of shed slab on Honour Avenue.

Road Side Rural Slashing

SOUTH Whitehead Street, Kooringal Road, Walbundrie Road, Hopefield Road, Oil Tree Lagoon Road, Corowa and Howlong landfill, Honour Ave and Coreen-Balldale Road.

NORTH Urana Township, Federation Way, Morundah township and surrounds. Moving onto Greenvale Road, Strontian Road, Boree Creek township and surrounds when time permits.

Table drain maintenance

Table drain maintenance focused on choke points in and around the Corowa industrial estate, Redlands Road, Cemetery Road and Nixon Street and table drains from the back of gun club continued along cemetery road to allow for water flow into Skehans Lane table drain.

Please Note: Works were carried out only in zones where no impact can be made on the Sloanes Froglet (between April and October breeding season).

Sealed Roads

  • Numerous customer requests for pothole repairs on sealed urban and rural roads have been received and actioned with the Corowa based Flocon patching truck and the Urana based Jet Master patching truck.
  • Work is continuous on all roads such as: Federation Way, Jerilderie Road, Boree Creek Road, Urana/Boree/Morundah/Oakland and Rand townships and rural roads.
  • The impacts of the flooding are still a significant issue that the operations staff are working hard to get on top of.

Maintenance Crew/Sundry Crew

  • Installation of all road signs, guide post and all general maintenance needs within the shire.
  • Floating plant around to multiple job sites.
  • Culvert installations
  • Patching
  • General maintenance in townships and caravan parks

Heavy Trucks

  • Carting waste/gravel for earthworks, culvert replacement on Cullivel Road
  • Gravel carting Cocketgedong Road
  • Gravel carting gravel re-sheet
  • Gravel carting Cullivel Road

TfNSW / RMCC

  • Completion of remedial works for the resealing program of numerous segments
  • Resealing and line marking of all resealing program
  • Tree removal of dangerous trees on all various segments on Spring Drive from Mulwala to Corowa

Quarries

Planning is well under way for the blasting of 100,000 tons of blast and crushing at the Balldale and Daysdale quarries. The gravels will be used for upcoming RRRP and capital works programs.
