Capital Works Program Update - June 2022

Council has an ongoing program of capital works and upgrades to buildings, parks, playgrounds, and roads across the Federation Council Region. The following activities were undertaken in June 2022 by Federation Council’s Works teams.
• Corowa – Mulwala Cycleway: Gravel pavement commenced on Spring Drive from Croppers Road to Enfield Street, Spring drive between Lee Valley Road and Stuckey’s Road.
• East Street Howlong Watermain Works: commenced for 150mm watermain renewal from Hawkins Street and Golf Club Drive. Works include, potholing, identification and protection of underground services, trenching and laying of approx. 200m of new “Blue Brute” PVC pipe, underbore Golf Club Drive and East Street ready for interconnection with existing network. Early July – underbore Hawkins Street, interconnect with the current network and connect water services to the new main.
• Slashing Corowa Aerodrome: when possible as ground conditions make this difficult due to wet weather.
• Daysdale Curves Earthworks: gravel pavement, batter work and drainage over new culvert in culvert in Coreen Creek.
• School Zone Signage: Transport for NSW funded replacement of damaged and faded School Zone signage in Rand, Howlong, Corowa, South Corowa and Mulwala. Re-marking of “Dragons Teeth” and 40kmh symbols will be carried out in July.
• Howlong Landfill Works: conducted at Howlong landfill this month included items to improve compliance and rehabilitation of the site. One completed cell was covered and rehabilitated, the current cell was extended, old residual tyres and concrete waste was covered and rehabilitated, an old cell was topped up with covered material following subsidence over time, two litter fences were constructed to reduce windblow litter escaping the site and a hard stand was constructed so we can move the construction and demolition waste area away from overhead power lines.
• Corowa Landfill Works: conducted at the Corowa landfill include: realigning the site layout in preparation for a new cell, 500m of road was constructed to allow safe vehicle access using recycled crushed concrete that is not suitable for use on public roads. The current cell was covered and compacted, and green waste shredding was booked in for a few weeks’ time, and quotes were received for tyre, mattress and lounge shredding which will hopefully occur in a few weeks’ time also.
• Cullivel Road Work: work on this project now completed for this financial year – will recommence at the end of winter.
• Maintenance Grading Program: Roads graded in June were Warmatta Road, Davey’s Hill Road, Hanrahan’s Road. Corowa urban streets – Neil Street, Victoria Street, Murray Street, Brocklesby Street, Lucan Street. Mahonga Road
• Tabledrain Maintenance Tabledrain Maintenance in urban and rural drains, only in zones where no impact can be made on the Sloanes Froglet (between April and October breeding season).
• Sealed Roads Pothole repairs on sealed urban and rural roads with the Corowa based Flocon patching truck and the Urana based Jetmaster patching truck.
• Customer Requests Numerous Customer Requests responded to for drainage, potholes, signs and tree clearances, however some were unable to be acted on due to budget constraints or staff numbers.
