Capital Works Program Update - November 2024

Council has an ongoing program of capital works and upgrades to buildings, parks, playgrounds and roads across the Federation Council Region. The following activities were undertaken during November 2024 by Federation Council’s Operations Works teams. 

The teams executed various initiatives, aiming to advance critical projects and address community needs.

  

Table Drain Maintenance

  • Table drain maintenance on urban and rural roads with the focus on Customer Requests and problem areas.
  • Please Note: Works are carried out only in zones where no impact can be made on the Sloanes Froglet (between April and October breeding season).

Sealed Roads

Numerous customer requests for pothole repairs on sealed urban and rural roads have been received and actioned with the Corowa based Flocon patching truck and the Urana based Jet Master patching truck.
Work is continuous on all roads such as: Federation Way south/north, Jerilderie Road, Boree Creek Road, Urana/Boree/Morundah/Oakland and Rand townships and rural roads.
 
Slashing - Sealed Roads Shoulders
Teams are actively engaged in slashing vegetation to minimize fire risks as summer approaches, aiming to enhance safety for the community.

Quarries

Blast has been undertaken at the Balldale and Daysdale pits to supply gravel for the upcoming works programs.

Davies Hill – Carting Gravel for various projects listed in the grader section.

 

Maintenance Crew/Sundry Crew 

  • Culvert installations / repairs
  • Footpath maintenance / repairs
  • Sign replacements
  • Guild posts/ signage
  • Working with construction crews as required
  • Fulfilling customer requests
  • Table drain maintenance
  • Roadside sucker removal/spraying
  • Attend call outs for trees over roads from storm events

Heavy Trucks

  • Carting gravel for FLR Round 4 Whitehead Street rehabilitation works
  • Carting gravel for shoulder maintenance works
  • Carting stone for patching trucks, Flocon and Jetmaster
  • Carting excess spoil Corowa Landfill for cover & capping

TfNSW–RMCC

Maintenance works under the RMCC agreement. Vegetation control on shoulders - slashing and herbicide application, pothole patching, guide post replacements.

Heavy  Patching  on MR314 Segment 80 Spring Drive between Bullplain Road and Kyffins completed as a part of the CAPE X program by Federation Council staff in conjunction with contractors.

Corowa Aerodrome

  • Twice weekly inspections carried out to ensure compliance with the MOS 139.
  • Repairs to lights as required. 
  • Herbicide spraying on runway shoulders and around wind indicators. Herbicide spraying on grass runways to control weed problems (e.g Guildford Grass).

Annual Safety Day

Councils’ 5th annual Staff Safety Day was held on the 21st of November. The day is designed to put safety at the front of mind for all staff so that they conduct themselves in a safe way, understanding their responsibilities to have a safe workplace and to reduce and avoid risks and hazards and to keep themselves and their colleagues safe.
