Corowa Aquatic Centre Service Review – Have your Say!

The Corowa Aquatic Centre was opened to the public on 26 April 2021 following replacement of the outdoor 50m summer seasonal pool that was decommissioned in 2018 due to safety concerns. The centre operates year-round and includes a heated indoor 25m three-lane pool with program area, outdoor splash park, outdoor 50m eight lane pool as well as a café, swim shop and changerooms.
The centre has been open for two (2) years and during this time has been under council's direct management. Council initially agreed to run the centre for a minimum 2-year period before considering the longer-term service delivery model. The purpose of this was to provide an opportunity for Council to understand the service as well as having the benefit of 2 years of operational data available.
To assist with maximising the Corowa Aquatic Centre full potential for patrons and the community, Council has undertaken a service review of Corowa Aquatic Centre by an internal working group to identify and weigh-up different service delivery model options that could be successfully implemented at the centre. The review information was considered at the June 2023 Council meeting and Council will be undertaking community engagement throughout July to seek community input before making a decision about the future service delivery model.
To support this service review, Council will be hosting a series of drop-in sessions with the community to provide them with an overview of the project, and receive feedback as noted above.
Drop-in Sessions will be held at the following locations and times:
- Tuesday, July 18 – Corowa Civic Centre – 11am till 2pm.
- Wednesday, July 19 – Mulwala Library – 11am till 2pm.
- Tuesday, July 24 – Howlong Library – 11am till 2pm.
- Wednesday, July 26 – Urana Council Office – 11am till 2pm.
Federation Council Mayor, Councillor Pat Bourke encouraged residents to attend the drop-in sessions and engage with Council on the service review of the Corowa Aquatic Centre.
“Council is considering two service delivery methods of the Corowa Aquatic Centre as part of this service review and we are really looking forward to having input from the community,” he said.
“Council encourages as many residents and users of this facility to provide their feedback via the online survey, or by writing to Council directly.”
Mayor Bourke said through this process, Council was committed to ensuring the facility meets the expectations of our community and patrons, whilst being run as efficiently as possible.
“Our patronage numbers over the last two years since opening prove that this investment in quality infrastructure has been an overwhelming achievement to improve the health and wellbeing of our community,” he said.
“The Corowa Aquatic Centre is undoubtedly a drawcard for our region and has made Federation Council an even greater place to live and visit. The Centre welcomes over 400 children weekly to participate in our Learn to Swim Program which has been one of the most successful programs launched to date. Getting the right management model to support the ongoing success and the many benefits this centre provides is of high priority.”
