Federation Council is currently seeking people with personal or professional experience in disability access and inclusion issues to join the Federation Disability Advisory Committee.

“This is a great opportunity for people to actively advocate and contribute to positive changes in relation to people with disability in our community.” Said Mayor, Pat Bourke.  “The Disability Advisory Committee will assist Council in ensuring that disability rights are integrated into the core business of Council.”

“Everyone, not just Council, has a role in building a community that is accepting and inclusive of all people, regardless of ability,” said Mr Bourke.

Council is looking for residents with a lived experience of disability and ideally would like to form a committee with members that represent;

  • People with disability.
  • Carers of a person with disability.
  • Parents or guardians of children with disability.
  • Disability sector professionals.

People wishing to nominate must be prepared to represent the whole of the community and to give advice to Council on access and inclusion issues.

A core role of the committee will be to contribute expertise and knowledge on the implementation of Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2018-2021 over the next twelve months and to assist in developing the next plan.

The committee is voluntary and will met bi-monthly. Members can attend face to face or via communication platforms such as Google Hangouts.

Nominations close Friday 4 September 2020.

Nomination forms can be found online on Council’s website or hard copies at any of the Council offices. Verbal expression of interest can be made by contacting Council’s Community Development Team Leader on 02 6033 8974.
