Council launches new digital Cemetery Platform

Federation Council is excited to announce the launch of a new online platform that provides easy access to digitized cemetery records and maps for all ten cemeteries within the Federation Council local government area.

Recognizing the historical significance of cemeteries, Council partnered with ‘Chronicle’ to digitize records and create a user-friendly platform for the community. With Chronicle, users can:

• Locate graves within any cemetery

• Explore the stories of the deceased through online memorials

• Learn about the history of each cemetery and the community it serves

• Contribute to the project by submitting online memorials

Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook said this valuable resource will be of great interest to genealogists, historians, and anyone interested in exploring local history and family connections.

"We are thrilled to launch this project and provide a valuable resource for the community," she said.

"Preserving the history of our cemeteries and the people they serve is importantto us, and this project will help us do just that."

Cemeteries offer a unique window into the past, providing insights into:

• Historical attitudes towards death and commemoration

• Social and economic development of the region

• The lives of diverse individuals within the community

• Major events that shaped the region
