Federation Council, in partnership with Intereach is inviting residents to attend an inspiring session with renowned International Community Development Practioner, Jim Diers.

Jim’s community presentations are designed to connect, motivate and empower residents to engage with their communities and the decisions that affect their lives.

Jim is a leader in community planning with over 40 years experience working to support caring, inclusive and powerful communities.

Jim has a lifetime of experience in the development of communities having served as the founding director of the City of Seattle’s Department of Neighbourhoods between 1988 and 2002. Since then, he has continued his work in community organising and development at the University of Washington as well as serving on the faculty of the Asset-Based Community Development Institute.

Jim uses real-life examples of exciting and innovative projects that he has been involved in across the world, showcasing communities that have used a strengths-based approach to overcome social and economic barriers.

“Residents are encouraged to come along and hear about grassroots projects that have taken place in communities, just like ours, by the community,” said Mayor Pat Bourke.

“ We hope this will encourage local groups and individuals to learn more about how they can get their own projects up and running. ”

This is the third time Jim Diers has visited the area, with community presentations in 2012 and 2015.

“The sessions Jim delivered in the past were extremely well attended by the community and projects such as the Community Garden in Corowa were inspired by Jim's session,” Mayor Bourke said.

“We are really pleased to welcome Jim back again to work with our community.”

From community groups, schools, sporting clubs or businesses, Jim will re-energize passion for your community and provide inspiring ways to get your community to lead, plan and deliver projects.

The Community Presentation is open to anyone interested in making things happen in their community!
