Disability Inclusion Action Plan
Published on 01 February 2017
Federation Council has launched an important survey that will inform the development of its Disability Inclusion Action Plan. All NSW Councils are required to develop their plans by June 2017 as part of their commitment to improving access for those with a disability.
The plan is also designed to change perceptions of people living with a disability and will promote the importance of inclusiveness and accessibility within Federation Council communities. A range of issues and barriers will be considered such as access to information, services, buildings and facilities.
Federation Council Administrator, Mike Eden said the plan is an important step in building strong communities that meet the needs of all residents and visitors.
'This will become a valuable tool not just for Council but for the wider community.' he said.
Council will be working closely with local and regional service providers in the development of the plan and is also encouraging the wider community to take part in the survey.
'The consultation phase will allow us to identify what some of the issues and barriers are so that effective solutions can be implemented.' said Mr Eden.
'But it's also a chance to think about what opportunities we have to make our communities a place where everyone belongs.' he said.
