Federation Council invests $2.15M in Federation Way upgrade
Published on 11 April 2025
Federation Council is pleased to announce the commencement of Stage 2-5 of the Federation Way – Daysdale Road Rehabilitation Project. This project is a significant investment in the region’s road infrastructure and will be commencing from the 28th of April 2025. The $2.15 million project will see a further 3.1 kilometers of Federation Way, located just south of the Daysdale - Walbundrie Road, undergo essential rehabilitation works over a 12 week period.
Building on the successful completion of Stage 1, this project will involve strengthening and resurfacing the existing road pavement, installing new culverts to improve drainage and mitigate flooding, and constructing a bypass track to minimize disruption during the major culvert replacement.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook, highlighted the importance of the project for the community.
“Council is committed to maintaining and improving our road network for the safety and convenience of all residents and road users,” Cr Cook said.
“Federation Way is a vital link in our region, and this significant investment will address the deterioration caused by heavy vehicle traffic, flooding, and the natural aging of the infrastructure.”
The 12-week project will be undertaken in stages, with Stage 2 focusing on drainage works, culvert installation, and road rehabilitation, followed by Stages 3, 4, and 5 concentrating on further drainage and road rehabilitation.
Cr Cook acknowledged that roadworks can cause temporary inconvenience.
“We understand that there will be some disruption during the construction period, and we sincerely appreciate the community’s patience and understanding,” she said.
“To minimize the impact, a bypass track will be constructed around the main culvert replacement site, and comprehensive traffic management will be in place throughout the working hours. Our aim is to complete these essential upgrades as efficiently as possible.”
The project is jointly funded, with $1.61 million secured through the Transport NSW – Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program (HSSVP), and a $566,000 contribution from Federation Council through the Transport NSW Block Grant 2024-25.
“Securing this significant funding from the NSW Government is a testament to the importance of this project,” Cr Cook said.
“This investment, combined with Council’s contribution, will deliver a safer, more durable, and more functional road for our community and for the freight industry that relies on this key transport route.”
Residents and road users are advised that while traffic will be permitted, delays are expected during the construction period. Council is committed to keeping the community informed of the project’s progress through various channels, including a dedicated project page on the Council website, letterbox drops to directly impacted residents, and updates on the TfNSW OneRoad page. Variable Message Sign (VMS) boards will also be used to provide real-time traffic information.
