Kinder bags a hit with local students

Ninety of Council’s youngest residents who started school in 2020 were all smiles as they received their Kinder Library Bags recently.  

The reusable library bags are provided by the Federation Council Library team and includes information for families on healthy eating and habits, local services, libraries, as well as a special book by an Australian author for each child.

Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said this year Council used the Kinder Library Bags as an opportunity to launch its Families and Children Services Directory.

“The new directory, is a pocket size fold out booklet that includes information on childcare services, kindergartens, local schools, parenting and disability services, maternal and health services, and much more,” he said.

“The idea was to create a handy resource to support families and children within the community from babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers to primary aged children. It slips into a purse or wallet and then folds out to display the names and phone numbers of local services primarily in Federation Council, but also specialist services from across the region.”

Mayor Bourke said the directory aims to support families and their children to access the help they need through its comprehensive listing of services.

“It is hoped the directory will facilitate an increase in families’ participation across the many and varied services available in Federation, thereby supporting a greater feeling in families of belonging in the community,” he said.

Whilst it is envisaged the bulk of the information will remain current for some time, Federation Council acknowledges the changing nature of the information in a publication of this nature.
