The Federation Youth Council is very excited to announce their new community project aimed at upgrading the Memorial Plaza Corowa into a buzzing community space for all residents to enjoy.

The Federation Youth Council recently engaged professional and experienced public artist Kade Sarte to work with Council’s youngest residents to design and create a large mural on the wall in the Memorial Plaza. Kade based in Albury has done many street art projects across the region.

This week students from the Street Art Masterclass at Corowa High School attended a workshop with the artist, Kade, where they looked at Australian street artists, different styles and techniques and brainstormed ideas for the mural. The students will attend another workshop with the artist next week to learn actual techniques before commencing the mural on the Tuesday 3 December.

Mayor Patrick Bourke said, "Engaging youth in the placemaking process is good for Council, the young people themselves, but also the broader general community. By being actively engaged in youth-friendly spaces, young people can feel like they have investment in their community and they can develop a strong sense of ownership in these places.”

Recent community consultation through the Sanger Street Streetscape Review flagged the desire from local businesses and residents for the Memorial Plaza to become a gathering and event space for community.

The Federation Youth Council hope to further develop the area and suggestions been considered include a public BBQ, water bubbler, Wi-Fi facilities, power access, inclusive furniture, festive bunting and lighting.
