NAVIGATION RESTRICTION - (Marine Safety Act 1998 s.12)

Murray River, Corowa

AUSTRALIA DAY SKI SHOW AND ROWING EXHIBITION

1.30 pm to 4.00 pm – Friday 26 January 2018

 

SPECIAL EVENT

Vessel operators are advised that a Special Event pursuant to Section 12(2) of the Marine Safety Act 1998 is to be held on the Murray River, between John Foord Bridge and North East (upstream) of the Corowa Caravan Park Boat Ramp at Corowa, between 1.30 pm and 4.00 pm on Friday 26 January 2018.

 EXCLUSION ZONE

Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, Roads and Maritime has granted an an Exclusive Use Aquatic Licence to the Federation Council to conduct the event and an Exclusion Zone (‘the Zone’) will be established on the navigable waters of the Murray River between John Foord Bridge to North East of the Corowa Caravan Park Boat Ramp at Corowa between the above times. The Zone will be marked by the presence of control vessels.

No unauthorised vessels (i.e. vessels that are not already lawfully moored in the zone) may enter the Zone between the specified times.

Vessels lawfully moored within the Zone must remain at their moorings and MUST NOT be operated during the event.

The boat ramp at Wahgunayh Willows will be closed during this time.

The exclusion zone will be place to ensure the safe operation of the Australia Day activities on the river.

DIRECTIONS

Roads and Maritime advise that in relation to the Zone;

  • a)      Persons within the vicinity of the Zone must comply with any directions given by any Boating Safety Officer or Police Officer in relation to the Special Event or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).

 

  • b)      No unauthorised vessels or persons are permitted to enter the Zone and to do so may be an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.12(5) — Maximum Penalty $1,100.00)
