Works to extend and upgrade the Corowa Skate Park have been completed with local skateboarders, scooter and bicycle enthusiasts overjoyed with the outcome.

Haley Constructions led the work on the $327,560 upgrade project, which come to fruition after securing $333,170 through the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Major Project Fund and was also supported through funds raised by the Corowa Skate Park Committee ($16,130).

Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke and Youth Mayor Maxim Blockley recently attended the site with Corowa Skate Park Committee members to engage with local users and hear firsthand how the extension welcomes 50-100 users every afternoon.

Federation Youth Council Mayor Maxim Blockley said the Youth Council were thrilled to see the extension delivered for all youth to enjoy.

“It looks absolutely fantastic and to hear from friends and the youth here today about how much everyone is enjoying it makes me feel really proud,” he said.

Skate Park Committee Member Ellen Lewis said the committee was proud of the extension project and although it had taken some time to deliver, was worth the wait.

“The extension project has truly exceeded our aims,” she said.

“To see the look on all the kid’s faces is just brilliant. They clearly love it.”

Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said the extension of the Corowa Skatepark has improved the usability and appeal of this important asset for Council’s youngest residents by catering for a broader range of ages and skill.

“This project has seen the creation of a youth activation area that offers young people an alternative recreation option to traditional sports and encourages social connections,” he said.

“Council would like to take this opportunity to thank our youngest residents who have been involved in the project, as well as the Skate Park Committee, led by Council's Project Manager Geoff Lewis, who have helped Council to understand the needs and expectations of users to deliver this new fantastic extension design.”
