On-site Sewage Management Systems - Information Sessions

Council invites property owners and householders to attend one of the FREE On-site Sewage Management System information sessions scheduled during February.
Following the adoption of the new On-site Sewage Management Strategy, Council is hosting information sessions to assist property owners and householders with the operation and maintenance of their system to avoid failures and prevent public health and environmental risks.

Topics covered include:
- How septic systems work;
- How maintain your septic system to prevent problems;
- How to identify and trouble shoot issues with your septic system; and
- Common problems identified during compliance inspections.
Under the new strategy, all properties with a septic system will be inspected over the next 3 years to check compliance against prescribed performance standards. Inspections will commence from late February. The following properties will be inspected first:
- Unsewered townships of Boree Creek, Morundah, Daysdale, Balldale and Rand;
- Unsewered areas of Corowa, Howlong, Mulwala, Oaklands and Urana; and
- Properties on less than 4000m2 of land in Coreen, Collendina, Buraja, Lowesdale, Hopefield, Rennie, Savernake.
This information session is for you if:
- You want to know more about how your septic works;
- You are unsure whether your septic is working satisfactorily;
- You want to know what regular checks and maintenance you should be undertaking on your septic;
- You want to be prepared before the inspection of your septic.
These information sessions are being delivered by Building and Environmental Services Today (B.E.S.T.). Owner of B.E.S.T., Neil Smith has worked in the environmental health and building field for over 35 years and has a wealth of knowledge and experience with septic systems.
