Opportunity to join the Federation Community Drug Action Team
Published on 21 August 2020
Federation Council are seeking members to join the Federation Community Drug Action Team (CDAT) and is encouraging residents who are passionate about building a strong, healthy and connected community to nominate.
The Federation CDAT will focus on developing evidence-based initiatives to minimise and prevent alcohol and other drug harms across the Federation Council region with the aim of providing local solutions to local issues.
CDAT’s can plan and run educational programs, campaigns and community forums. The program provides access to funding, resources, campaigns and events, as well as the latest research on effective community development health promotion.
CDAT’s aim is to build partnerships that commit to working together as a team to promote social inclusion and to deliver community-driven approaches that strengthen protective factors against alcohol and drug misuse in the community.
Ideally, the Federation CDAT would include representatives of local government, local community groups, local traders/business associations, health professionals, police, schools, and individuals who want to contribute to the prevention of drug and alcohol related harm.
Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said Council wants the best for our community and therefore it is imperative Council work together with the community to prevent and reduce the harmful effects of alcohol and other drugs.
”Whether you’d like to become a Community Drug Action Team member or can offer a small amount of time to assist with one-off events, there are a range of opportunities for our residents to get involved,” Mayor Bourke said.
“Community Drug Action Teams are led by passionate volunteers, wanting to make a difference in their own neighborhoods. If more people get involved, we are likely to have bigger impact.”
The Alcohol and Drug Foundation, which manage the NSW Government funded Community Drug Action Teams, commended the CDAT for its efforts in reducing and preventing alcohol and other drug-related harms at a grass roots level.
“The dedication of the Community Drug Action Team to strengthen its neighborhood is inspirational,” said the Alcohol and Drug Foundation’s NSW State Manager, Lorenzo Woodford.
The NSW Government’s Community Engagement Action Program is administered by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation. The program oversees the coordination and operation of Community Drug Action Teams, which have been helping to strengthen their own communities across the state for nearly 20 years.
